Everyday Shopping. Extraordinary Dining!

Polofields Crossing is the newest of many fantastic shopping hubs available to Waterfall residents, employees and visitors. Having opened in late November last year, this contemporary strip mall has already gained a loyal following.

The recent completion of Phase Two is bound to boost the centre’s popularity even further. Polofields Crossing is designed to simplify your life by catering to all your everyday needs, with stores like a Super Spar, West Pack Lifestyle, Pick n Pay Clothing, Clicks and more – in fact, it’s hard to think of anything that you won’t find here. But it is the new additions of stores like hair salon Ashely Moon and extraordinary dining experiences such as Paul – famous French Bakery and Restaurant, The Codfather and The Potato Shed, that really set it apart.

The Codfather

“It’s fresh, it’s uncomplicated, and it’s delicious,” says fishmonger and owner George Sinovich. Fish is the name of the game at The Codfather, and so the fish counter takes centre stage, right alongside the live oyster and lobster tanks. You can choose any fish or any combination of seafood you like and get it cooked straight away and delivered to your table.

On the other hand, The Codfather caters for more than pescatarians and sushi enthusiasts. While there is a wide choice for vegans too, meat lovers will be thrilled with the unique Spanish Josper charcoal oven, that adds an unmistakable smoky barbeque flavour to aged meat and grilled chicken.

The space is airy and light, contemporary and stylish. The seating is all about comfort, and every table showcases the     famous views. Exciting additions are a Café Rider coffee roastery and a new Italian brand of homemade ice cream.

However, the fishmonger remains one of the most popular aspects, allowing you to buy raw fish directly from The Codfather and take it home. Call in for daily specials, get your fish pre-marinated or book the team to come to your house and cook it for you.

The Potato Shed

The original Potato Shed restaurant stood amongst Newtown’s old 1911 railway sidings, known as ‘the potato sheds’. Once the site for fresh produce markets, the sheds were transformed into a cool steampunk-style eatery in 2015, before it moved to Polofields Crossing this year.

The brainchild of the Life Group of Life Grand Cafés, The Potato Shed houses a brewery and serves traditional Southern American smokehouse food. “We have honoured the heritage of the original ‘potato sheds’ in the newly built Polofields Crossing restaurant by repurposing materials for the décor and including raw historical features and refined contemporary elements,” explains owner John Koutsoudakis. “The result is unique décor, warm lighting and wood-burning fire pits, which create a feeling of old-world industrialism and comfort. Try the Embers and Ashes Pork Shank, which is braised for eight hours, or the famous lamb on the spit. Our signature Red burger and Gatsby burger are also menu favourites,” says John. The menu is designed for many dishes to be ordered and a table feast to be shared in a convivial and celebratory manner.
