We all want to do our bit for the environment, and making a move to be more environmentally friendly and recycle can be daunting especially when you don’t know where to start. After all, we know what to do with paper and plastic, but what do we do when it comes to recycling electronics?
Polofields Crossing has the solution for recycling electronics. From 13 to 15 September, you can bring any old electronics that need recycling to Polofields Crossing in their Clean Up Green Up initiative.
What kinds of items can you bring along? Cell phones, laptops, printers and keyboards are among the items you can recycle. You can also bring along tablets and old game consoles as well as CPUs, RAMs, copiers and old telephones. Any device that you are no longer using, or that you no longer need can be recycled.
Recycling e-waste is good for the environment. Electronic products contain materials that are harmful to the environment, which means they need to be handled in the correct manner. It cuts down on pollution and it saves landfills.
Electronics also have materials such as metal and plastic that can be reused. This means that there is less demand for resources and reduces the need to take more materials from the earth.
What about your personal data? Recycling companies have put measures in place to secure all your personal data during your device’s entire recycling journey.
In South Africa, it is illegal to dump e-waste in landfills. If anyone is caught disposing of e-waste at a landfill, they can face a fine of up to R10 million or even jail time – and quite possibly, both. Taking your old electronic products for recycling is ultimately the responsible thing to do.
Waterfalls City and Polofields Crossing have made it super easy to recycle e-waste, helping you to help the environment. Get to Polofields Crossing between 15 and 17 September and help us to create a greener planet and preserve the future for the generations to come.
