Fun and Flavour at the Polofields Crossing Book Fair in support of HospiceWits

It’s time for the annual winter book fair held at Polofields Crossing in support of HospiceWits. For three days from 24 to 26 May, Polofields Crossing plays host to the winter book fair. Proceeds go to HospiceWits to aid their services to the communities in and around Johannesburg and Soweto.

While it is the perfect time and place to find a pre-loved book, it’s also a time to enjoy some family fun. Whether you are choosing to have a special date night with a book or you are in the mood for some entertainment, the Winter Book Fair at Polofields Crossing in support of HospiceWits promises something fun for everyone in the family.

The Polofields Crossing Book Fair in support of HospiceWits is all about the love of books. It’s where pre-loved books and puzzles find new homes to continue to bring joy and delight to readers of all ages. The book fair brings all genres of books under one roof in aid of an excellent cause, with a children’s corner just for those kids who love reading. Puzzles and puzzle books are also available for those who want to exercise their brains a little. And, of course, the popular “Blind Date with a Book” is back!

If you have some books or puzzles that you would like to donate in aid of HospiceWits, you are more than welcome to bring them through over the weekend.

There is a section in the book fair exclusively for kids and they can also enjoy a carousel ride on Saturday 25 May between 9am and 5pm. They will also get to have loads of fun at the Lego tables and there will also be a chance for them to get creative with colouring. And for those who want to add even more excitement, SuperSPAR Polofields Crossing will be hosting a face painter from 11am to 3pm.

Trevor Sinclair’s book, We Called Rhodesia Home  will also be on sale, with a portion of the sales going to HospiceWits. The book centres around how Rhodesians, as pioneers, came to the country and details the life and adventures of a typical Rhodesian.

The book usually sells at R180, but will be available at the book fair for just R150 and R25 from ever sale will be donated to HospiceWits.

The book fair doesn’t just bring visitors food for the mind, but food to enjoy, too! SuperSPAR will be selling boerie rolls, prego rolls, and chicken or beef burgers for R40 each, and for those with a sweet tooth, they will also be selling cinnamon and sugar pancakes at R20 for four. Cold drink and bottled water is also on offer at R15 each.

Reddam School will also be in attendance to provide a fantastic performance.

Get to spend time with them and learn more about what they do to help the communities in and around Greater Johannesburg and Soweto. They will be reading stories to the kids and at 11am on 25 May, they will be putting on a performance of a story written by the son of one of the teachers, Alice.

Hospice nurses will also be attending the book fair on 25 May. The nurses will be at the book far on Friday 24 May from 2pm to 3pm, Saturday 25 May from 12pm to 1pm and on Sunday 26 May from 11am to 12pm.
